Chieh Huang is an exceptional scholar and composer, completing her Ph.D. in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology at the University of California, Irvine. Her innovative research intricately weaves Atayal language and heritage into contemporary composition, redefining musical expression and cultural representation.

As a prolific composer, Chieh’s work spans various mediums, including film scores, podcasts, and commissioned pieces for international organizations. Her recent albums “The Weaver” and “Chasing Threads” exemplify her unique ability to blend traditional and modern musical elements.

Chieh’s academic contributions are substantial, with numerous publications and presentations at prestigious conferences worldwide. Her research on Indigeneity and music has garnered attention, establishing her as a leading voice in her field.

Recognized with multiple fellowships and grants, including the DTEI Graduate Scholars Award and the Medici Scholarship, Chieh’s work is celebrated for its originality and impact. As an Associate in Music at UC Irvine, she has designed an original course titled “Sounds of Formosa,” showcasing her commitment to education.

Chieh is a percussionist and marimba player who has won top prizes in international competitions.
